Debswana and the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) on 21 April 2026 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise their commitment to advancing organisational capabilities and broadening national economic diversification impact.
The MoU was signed at the Debswana Corporate Centre by Debswana Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Motsomi, and BDC Managing Director, Oteng Keabetswe.
Speaking at the signing, Motsomi said the agreement marks a significant step toward building a resilient future for Debswana. He noted that the partnership is intended to ignite new business opportunities aligned with the company’s evolving strategy, which seeks to transform how it operates going forward.
The strategy focuses on value-addition partnerships that will enable Debswana to expand beyond its traditional core of diamond mining.
“Today marks a pivotal moment for Debswana and the Botswana Development Corporation as we formalise our shared commitment to explore areas of mutual interest and leverage synergies that will advance economic diversification and commercialisation in line with our respective organisational mandates,” said Motsomi.
BDC Managing Director Oteng Keabetswe emphasised that the partnership will unlock value and drive optimisation between the two organisations. He added that scaling earmarked projects will enhance economic impact and support Botswana’s integration into regional and international markets.
Providing additional context, Debswana Chief Financial Officer Ian Modubule highlighted that the company is actively pursuing new ways of doing business, including partnering with experts across various professional fields. He noted that collaboration with strategic partners will be key to sustaining value beyond the life of mining and positioning the business for long-term growth.
