DEBSWANA’S KEFILWE MOKONE CHAMPIONS INCLUSION AS A CATALYST FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH AT BANANA CLUB FORUM

Debswana Senior Human Resources Manager, Cultural Transformation, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, Ms. Kefilwe Mokone last week shared insights into diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging at the Banana Club Economic Inclusion Forum. Ms. Mokone was a keynote speaker and a panelist.

In her keynote themed ‘Inclusion as Economic Strategy: Building Resilient, Future-Ready Markets’, she challenged stakeholders to think differently about inclusion and understand its potential for business and Botswana. Ms. Mokone also said that for the country to tackle challenges and headwinds, there is need to re-imagine growth, and build it with and by everyone. She went on to discourage tokenism or identity politics and encouraged Botswana to build a market that mirrors the richness of its society where innovation, authenticity, and belonging drive performance.

In the panel discussing ‘Inclusive Business Practices: Key Strategies for Growth’, Ms. Mokone shared learnings from the Debswana journey. She spoke on the value of Debswana opening up to diversity and inclusion and how embracing these has helped organisations thrive.  She said that all this must be underpinned by the goal to ensure that organisation truly represent the broader society we live in.

Entrepreneur and innovator Sylvester Chauke was also a panelist alongside Ms. Mokone.
