As part of support to the communities in Boteti, Debswana-Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) Engineering Department recently donated winter clothing to residents of Mmatshumo Village. This initiative, aimed at assisting vulnerable members of the community during the cold winter season, reflects OLDM’s ongoing commitment to community support and upliftment.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, OLDM Senior Engineering Manager Ms Keene Nkoane shared that the initiative was made possible through personal contributions from employees, a testament to the strong bond between the Engineering Department and the Mmatshumo community.
She said the donation which included warm clothing, shoes, socks, sanitary pads, and toiletries to children under five, students, and the elderly forms part of their department employee volunteerism initiative, where employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and resources to support communities. Nkoane noted that the beneficiaries were identified in collaboration with the Boteti District Council’s Social and Community Development Office.
Kgosi Keletshwaretse Phetsogang of Mmatshumo also former Debswana employee commended Debswana for its steadfast commitment to people-centred development and encouraged the community to appreciate and emulate this act of generosity, particularly during challenging times of suppressed market performance.
Hon. Councillor Gasethata Oagile also conveyed heartfelt gratitude to Debswana employees, stating that such acts of kindness bring dignity and foster unity among Mmatshumo residents.
